5 Stars Great/Only Choice
I don’t know of any other choice of ink for the Epson R800 family of printers. {this is one of eight cartridges used for this family of printers. These comments apply to all colors.)

Compared to other families of inkjet ink such as a generation back of HP’s technology, the color is even and wonderful. Permanance is excellent. Gloss finish is excellent for an ink jet printer. Hint: Use good quality and preferably Epson paper to have the fewest color balance and evenness problems.

Although not directly a problem with the ink, Epson’s delivery system can clog. This will cause streaking. The only way I know to clear a stubborn clog is to use significant quantities of ink.

4 Stars Compatible with the Epson R800 and R1800 photo printers
When it comes to ink for my R1800 photo printer, I am concerned with the quality of the images I print. The Epson magenta UltraChrome Hi-Gloss ink cartridge provides superior resistance to water, fading and smudging. It is important to me that my prints are of high quality, so I don’t attempt to use the cheaper compatible ink cartridges. The color can be duplicated, but all inks are not created equal. Third party options may produce a good print initially, but may not hold up or last as long.

I believe in competition but I tried a refilled cartridge and although the quality was fine it didn’t last as long. Weighing that against the slightly lower price of the refills I think the originals are the way to go. Epson makes good printers and has been eclipsed by HP over the years. However I think you can still get more for your money by buying from the underdog.

I purchased 2 sets of this ink with Cyan. I have faint area whenever I print the parts where magenta and cyan ink is required while other area look fine. I’m not sure because this is made in Mexico not in Japan? Very disappointed.
